Harbhajan Singh Slams Team India’s Selection Policy After New Zealand Drubbing

Team India have been copping serious criticisms following their debacle in New Zealand where they suffered a humiliating 2-0 defeat in the Test series. Virat Kohli & Co played extremely poor cricket and also dropped points for the first time in the ICC World Test Championship. Veteran cricketer Harbhajan Singh also took a dig at the team management over their selection policy.

The home side completely outplayed India both technically and mentally. They needed a lot to do to come back after the whitewash in the three-match ODIs but New Zealand gave not an inch to the visitors. On both occasions, the Kiwi pacers posed difficult questions against the Indian batsmen, who had no answers to it. Indian batters failed to register a single century throughout the series which sums up their Test series.

Harbhajan Singh critical of team selection policy

Meanwhile, the selection of Rishabh Pant ahead of Wriddiman Saha also attracted a lot of criticism and Harbhajan Singh also joined the bandwagon. The veteran wicket-keeper from Bengal was in outstanding form during the home series against South Africa and Bangladesh earning praise from all quarters including skipper Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri, who labelled him as the best in the business.

“Wriddhiman Saha was replaced by Rishabh Pant. I  don’t know why Saha was thrown out. Pant’s form was also poor. Nor did he score in practice, who thought he could do well?" Harbhajan said.

Rishabh Pant looked pretty average in the Test series scoring only 60 runs from the four innings with the highest score of 25 runs during the second innings of Wellington Test. While skipper Virat Kohli has thrown in support behind the youngster but Wriddhiman Saha was really unlucky to sit out after being successful in challenging conditions.

Earlier, Harbhajan Singh has gone into records to criticise Ajinkya Rahane's poor technique calling him a lower-order batsman. Rahane looked more than miserable against the short-pitch deliveries which have also got his place in the Test side in jeopardy.
