With 18 wickets at an economy rate of just 6.58 runs per over in the 2021 season, Varun Chakravarty was a key factor in KKR reaching the championship game.
Despite KKR languishing in the seventh spot in the points table, he has been impressive so far this season
Anil Kumble on Varun Chakaravarthy of KKR’s return to form this season: “The IPL is moving around every city and he has adjusted to that.”
Anil Kumble, a former head coach of India, thinks that Varun Chakaravarthy of the KKR has found his bowling form again this season after a disappointing campaign last time out because of playing in different locations.
Following a terrible season in which he manages to pick up just six wickets in 11 games the previous year, the leg-break bowler from Karnataka has already grabbed 13 wickets in eight matches at IPL 2023.
Anil Kumble spoke briefly about Varun’s return to good form and stated:
“Varun is one of many players who have been playing exceptionally well. He played for the Indian team, and following that, he didn’t have a great IPL season last year. He didn’t benefit from that situation. However, I’m really pleased that Varun demonstrated his abilities. Since the beginning, when he was a member of the KKR team and was instrumental in advancing his team to the championship game, we were aware of his talent.”
Kumble subsequently stated: “Varun bowls differently, without a doubt. He has the talent, and I’m glad he found a solution. If he bowls at a slower pace, his action and effectiveness suffer. The speed, trajectory, and nip off the surface were all returned to him this year.”
“He’s gotten used to the IPL moving to different places. His bowling style is undoubtedly aided by this. When matches were only being played in a few venues last year and he lacked confidence, he struggled.”
In KKR’s most recent game, Chakravarthy was named Man of the Match after posting figures of 3/27 in four overs to help the team snap a four-game losing streak and defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 21 runs in Bangalore on April 26.
