All-rounder Washington Sundar’s injury will keep him out of action for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, according to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Aiden Markram, who called it a “massive loss.” A replacement for the cricketer was not something he was particularly familiar with, he continued.
Because of a hamstring injury, Sundar is no longer eligible to compete. Through a tweet on their official account on Thursday, April 27, the franchise confirmed the same. The 23-year-old participated in seven games for SRH during the IPL 2023 season, scoring 60 runs at a strike rate of 100 and grabbing three wickets at an average of 48.67.
Markram shared his opinions on Sundar during a press conference before Hyderabad’s IPL 2023 match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) on Saturday, April 29 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
“I haven’t participated in any replacement player options, so I’m not sure what’s going on there. But it’s a significant loss because everyone appreciates Washi’s abilities and the knowledge he brings. It’s difficult to simply replace a player like him, but we must have faith in the other members of our squad and give them a chance.”
Sundar’s IPL 2022 season was also ruined by an injury when he tore the webbing in his bowling hand.
“Our batting lineup needs to have some continuity, according to Markram.” With two victories and five defeats from seven games, SRH is currently ranked ninth in the points standings. Markram acknowledged that the team’s situation hasn’t been improved by frequent changes to the batting order.
He further stated: “Yes, it has been challenging to chop and change. Even though we make an effort to provide opportunities for everyone to play at all times, I firmly believe and concur that results come more quickly and effectively when actions are consistent.”
“Therefore, it is crucial for us to make an effort to maintain some consistency in our batting lineup. Sometimes in games, adjustments are made solely based on matchups, but as a team, we’re in a position where we’ve hopefully found our life balance, and we can hopefully carry over the combination into tomorrow’s game and maintain some consistency with our batting. ”
Regarding the team’s poor batting performance, he stressed the need for players to express themselves and address their mindset.
Markram added the following in a statement:
“Yes, unfortunately, our failure in batting has been that. However, in my opinion, the mindset and mental approach to it really just need to be addressed. So we’re attempting to liberate the guys and encourage them to express themselves as fully as possible. I simply had the impression that, regrettably, we were being a little bit cautious and playing it safe. ”
SRH has dropped three straight games. They lost to Delhi by seven runs in their most recent contest.
