After a sting operation, Sharma was abruptly removed from his position as the head of the national selection committee.
Following the alleged release of video footage of the former chief selector making several revelations about the Indian team, Sharma courted controversy.

Chetan Sharma’s hopeless tweet, sent three months after a sting operation, “No hope,” put an end to his tenure as BCCI chief selector. Less than two months were spent during Chetan Sharma’s second term as chairman of selectors.
The former India cricketer and ex-chief selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a tweet while the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was underway.
The tweet caught the attention of online users. “So far, life has been very difficult. Family or friends are unable to support you. Wishing Mata Rani’s blessings”, tweeted Sharma.
While some fans criticized the former India selector for stirring up controversy with his shocking claims in the TV sting, others rallied behind the former chairman of the national selection committee during these trying times.
There is no denying that Sharma stirred up controversy in Indian cricket with his offensive remarks. Which ranged from openly discussing private selection issues to alleging that players were receiving injections to speed up their returns to the national team.
The former India captain Virat Kohli and the former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly are said to have had an ego clash in the TV sting, which Sharma was seen discussing.
Under Ganguly’s leadership, batting legend Kohli announced his resignation as India’s captain during the shortest format. Rohit Sharma, a seasoned Indian opener, took over for Kohli as Team India’s current captain in all formats.
Sharma’s position as the chief selector was now in jeopardy as a result of the undercover TV sting operation. News agency ANI reported that BCCI secretary Jay Shah had accepted Sharma’s resignation.
Less than two months passed during his second term as selectors chairman. For India, the 57-year-old took part in 65 ODIs and 23 Test matches.
