Captain Rohit Sharma joined them the day after Mumbai Indians’ elimination from Qualifier 2 for the playoffs. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal had been added as a backup player and traveled to London with Rohit.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was replaced by Jaiswal because he scored 625 runs during the IPL 2023 season. He was unable to play due to personal obligations.
The Indian team will have nearly a week to train as a unit. Which was completed by the quartet of Ravindra Jadeja, Shubman Gill, Ajinkya Rahane, and Suryakumar Yadav.
Notably, the trio of Jadeja, Gill, and Rahane’s travel arrangements may have been impacted because the IPL final was delayed multiple times in Ahmedabad by rain, pushing it to June 30.
India started their preparations with light warm-ups. Earlier in the week they started batting and bowling in the nets under the watchful eye of head coach Rahul Dravid.
After losing the first Test Championship final to New Zealand in Southampton in 2021, India will be hoping to make things right in the WTC 2023 final.
Australia placed second on the WTC 2021–23 table and made it to the summit match for the first time. India qualified for their second consecutive final.
Rahul was replaced by Ishan Kishan, with KS Bharat serving as the designated wicketkeeper. For the first time since January 2022, Ajinkya Rahane joined the Test team again.
