WTC Final: Rohit Sharma Doubtful To Play In The Final WTC Match Due to Thumb Injury

One day prior to the WTC championship match against Australia on Tuesday, India’s Rohit Sharma was struck on the thumb during a net session.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of Team India, was struck on the thumb during the net session on Tuesday, just one day before the start of the World Test Championship final match against Australia at The Oval. In order to be safe, he immediately left the subsequent net session.

Rohit was taking throwdowns when he was struck on the left thumb during the Indian team’s optional net session on Tuesday at the Kennington Oval.

After what appeared to be a minor injury, he did not continue training, but the 36-year-old also showed up for the pre-game press conference.

The WTC final will be Rohit’s biggest test as a Test captain, a position the selectors gave him after Virat Kohli resigned in January 2022. After that, Rohit captained India in six games, all of which were played at home.

He was supposed to play in the postponed Test in England last year, but Covid-19 prevented him from doing so. He also missed the subsequent Test series in Bangladesh due to a thumb injury.

Despite having made his debut in the format in 2013, if Rohit does start the game on Tuesday, it will be his only seventh appearance in England.

But England will undoubtedly bring back some pleasant memories of the 2021 tour, when he had made an impressive impact as a Test opener en route to hitting a century at The Oval – a ravishing 127 – which remains his only hundred outside the subcontinent.

After missing the chance in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where India suffered a semi-final exit, Rohit would also be aiming for his first ICC trophy as the captain.

In the pre-game press conference, Rohit stated that “Test cricket is the ultimate format, most challenging format, and it will mean everything for us to win it. “I want to advance this Indian team and bring home a couple of ICC titles. “
