On Tuesday (June 20), MS Dhoni gave a signed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shirt to wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The Afghan shared the image of the jersey and thanked Dhoni for his gesture on Instagram.
The Afghan had previously stated that he wants to play with or against Dhoni in the IPL 2023.
Gurbaz wrote in the caption of the photo, “Thanks @mahi7781 sir for sending the gift all the way from India.”
Prior to being traded to KKR this season, the left-hander played for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2022.
In 11 games (10 in the opening position and one at No. 4) He scored 227 runs at a strike rate of 133.53 percent and an average of 20.64 percent.
His diving catch against Punjab Kings against Punjab Kings drew comparisons to Dhoni, demonstrating his skill behind the wickets as well.
Dhoni frequently sends autographed uniforms to players who adore him or specifically request them. Haris Rauf, a fast bowler for Pakistan, received one in 2022 as well.
Prior to the IPL 2023, Gurbaz said of Dhoni, “I hope this dream comes true.”
Gurbaz said he wanted to play with AB de Villiers and Dhoni before the IPL 2023 season even started.
“He hoped to realize the dream with the latter since the former had already retired.”
“He admitted to Hindustan Times that he had wanted to play with two players in his life, but that never happened.”
“The first was AB de Villiers. He had a great influence on me. My hero was him. Since I was young, I have closely followed him.”
“He’s retired now, but one thing I’d like to play with, against, and with MS Dhoni in one game this year is something I hope is possible. Hopefully, this fantasy comes true.”
This year, the 21-year-old played one game against CSK but only managed to score once (4).
