The second game of the Ashes 2023 series will feature a little bit more aggression from England against Australia, according to Test coach Brendon McCullum. At Lord’s on June 28, England will play Australia.
McCullum said in a post-first Test interview with BBC Sport that England would approach Australia slightly more aggressively at Lord’s and added that they could have won the game if luck had been on their side. At Edgbaston, Australia defeated England by two wickets in a thrilling match.

He continued by saying that England wants to try and take advantage of their opportunities and try to put Australia under pressure. Australia’s captain Pat Cummins played a valiant innings on Day 5, finishing the innings unbeaten at 44 to lead Australia to a storied Ashes victory.
“The guys are proud of the work they did, and I think we’ll go to Lord’s with a lot of confidence. We constantly want to try to advance the game. Where we believe we can put the opposition’s teams under pressure, we want to try to seize the opportunity, McCullum continued.“
As he praised Moeen Ali’s performance at Edgbaston, McCullum expressed optimism that the spin-bowling all-rounder would recover in time for the second Test at Lord’s. During Australia’s opening innings at Edgbaston, Moeen sustained a finger injury.
“Moeen did an excellent job. He is delighted to be playing Test cricket once more. For the following one, hopefully he will arrive on time. We should be able to control Mo’s finger over the next few days, which will allow us to choose him for the upcoming match, according to McCullum.”
When England plays Australia at Lord’s on June 28, they will be looking to rebound after losing the first Test of the Ashes 2023 series.
