The 2023 Ashes got underway with the first Test on Friday, June 16 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. England batter Harry Brook’s dismissal on the first day of the Test match left the fans and the experts stunned. He was dismissed in a  freak and remarkable fashion by Australian off-spinner Nathan Lyon.

The incident took place in the first innings of the Test match. England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. Harry Brook came out to bat after the dismissal of Zak Crawley with 124 runs on the board at the loss of three wickets. He was trying to rebuild a partnership for his team with Joe Root. The duo together added 51 runs for the fourth-wicket stand.

In the 38th over of the innings, Nathan Lyon bowled a short delivery, which got some extra bounce. The ball kicked off the thigh pad and lobbed into the air. Nobody, including the keeper and the close-in fielders, knew where the ball was going. The ball landed between the batter and the stumps, only to rattle the stumps. Brook had to walk back for 32 runs in the innings.

“I’ve seen many types of dismissals, nothing like this,” said Ricky Ponting on air about the dismissal.
