Yuzvendra Chahal recently revealed that he transitioned from being a fast bowler to specializing in leg-spin based on advice from his father.
Chahal’s father, a former university-level cricketer himself, candidly informed him that his physique was not suited for fast bowling, prompting the switch.
During his school days, Chahal initially pursued a career as a fast bowler. However, his father’s insight influenced him to explore leg-spin instead.
Chahal shared this revelation during an interview on Ranveer Allahbadia’s YouTube channel. He discussed his journey from being a pacer to becoming one of India’s finest spinners.
Chahal explained that his father, who had captained the university cricket team for five years, recognized that his build was not conducive to excelling as a fast bowler.
Following his father’s guidance, Chahal made the switch to leg-spin, a decision that would shape his cricketing career.
The 32-year-old cricketer emphasized that his transition to leg-spin came naturally, without directly emulating anyone.
He discovered his affinity for leg-spin at the tender age of eight and began showcasing his skills in competitive cricket at the under-14 level for Haryana.
From there, Chahal’s professional cricketing journey began, spanning an impressive 23 years of dedication and growth.
Apart from his international exploits, Chahal holds the distinction of being the highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
With 187 wickets from 145 matches at an average of 21.69, Chahal has proven his mettle in the highly competitive T20 league.

During the interview, Chahal also recalled an incident where he briefly experimented with off-spin bowling in an international match against Sri Lanka.
Chahal tried bowling off-spin at the suggestion of former Indian captain MS Dhoni. He believed it would be advantageous against a left-handed batsman.
However, due to the challenges and pressure associated with abruptly switching to off-spin at the international level, Chahal quickly abandoned the experiment after a couple of deliveries, opting to focus solely on his leg-spin.
Chahal’s upcoming engagement will be during India’s white-ball series against West Indies, commencing with the first One Day International (ODI) on July 27.
Fans eagerly await his mesmerizing spin bowling, as he continues to play a pivotal role in India’s limited-overs success.
