The 37-year-old veteran Stuart Broad decided to retire from international cricket after the ongoing 5th Ashes Test match against Australia at Kennington Oval, London. Broad was smashed for six sixes in an over during the inaugural T20 World Cup played at Kingsmead, Durban on 19th September 2007.
It was a remarkable knock by Singh hitting Broad for six sixes and helping India post 218 for 4. Yuvraj Singh hit 58 off 16 deliveries putting enough pressure on England bowlers.

“I started building my ‘warrior mode’ that I call it after that experience. Ultimately, I wish that didn’t happen. What really helped me was that it was a dead rubber, so I didn’t feel like I’d knocked us out of the World Cup. But I think it steeled me up to make me the competitor I am to this day and has driven me forward a huge amount,” Stuart Broad commented.
“Yeah, it was obviously a pretty tough day, what would I have been, 21, 22? I learnt a lot, I pretty much based a whole mental routine through that experience, knowing that I was left very short as an international performer. I’d rushed my preparation, I didn’t have any pre-ball routine, I didn’t have any focus,” Broad told reporters following Day 3 of the final Ashes Test.
Stuart Broad’s record in Test matches
He has been the backbone of England’s Test bowling attack along with James Anderson. Broad made his Test debut on 9th July 2007 against Sri Lanka at SSC, Colombo. Broad created impact with the ball especially in English conditions that provided seam movement and made life tough for the batters.
Broad will end his Test career on 167 Test matches (308 innings) with 602 wickets at an economy of 2.98 runs per over. He picked career-best figures of 8 for 15 against Australia at Trent Bridge, Nottingham during the 2015 Ashes series. The veteran pace bowler demonstrated great bowling skills and became the 2nd pace bowler to pick 600 Test wickets.
His performance against Australia has been exceptional during Ashes. Broad has picked 150 Ashes wickets and will look to end on a high note when Broad takes the field for one final time during the 4th morning of the 5th Ashes Test match.
Broad was a part of the team that won the historic Test series on Indian soil in 2012. Broad has been an excellent servant for England cricket and will be missed when they take the field during India’s tour in 2024.
