Recently, former England speedster Stuart Broad expressed his admiration for Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi, acknowledging him as one of his favourite bowlers. Broad also praised Afridi’s exceptional run-up, which he finds particularly captivating.
During his debut in The Hundred this year, the left-arm pacer caused mayhem by taking two wickets in the first two balls of the innings for Welsh Fire against the Manchester Originals. The Welsh Fire speedster dismissed Phil Salt with his trademark inswinger and sent Laurie Evans packing with a yorker.
In a conversation with Sky Sports, Broad commented: “Shaheen Shah Afridi is one of my favourite bowlers to watch in the world. He has got such a great presence about him when he runs in, and I love bowlers run in with energy and vibrancy to their run up.”
The veteran of 167 Test matches acknowledged Afridi’s natural skill and hopes to see him excel for Nottinghamshire Outlaws. He added:
“He has got such a natural skill – the way that ball swings back into the right-handers is such a pleasure to watch. And he represented the Notts Outlaws this summer, which is close to my heart. He’s one of the bowlers I admire hugely, and I want to see him do well.”
The 23-year-old bowler took 2 wickets for 24 runs in the match as Fire defeated the Originals by nine runs, despite a late onslaught from Jos Buttler.
Shaheen Afridi will lead Pakistan’s bowling attack in the 2023 World Cup
Meanwhile, Shaheen Shah Afridi aims to stay fit for the Asia Cup and World Cup. He is eager to showcase his skills in the high-voltage India-Pakistan clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium and end his team’s losing streak against India in World Cups.
The 23-year-old left-arm pacer was instrumental in Pakistan’s 10-wicket victory over India in the 2021 T20 World Cup, securing figures of 3 wickets for 31 runs and dismissing Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul.
