However, Rishabh Pant, recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru following a devastating car accident last year, could sit out the rest of the 2023 season. Pant missed the entire Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament due to severe injuries from the car crash, including forehead cuts, a ligament tear in his right knee, and abrasions on his back. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old’s recovery seems to be progressing quicker than anticipated.
Will Rahul and Iyer be able to regain their fitness before the Asia Cup?
According to a prior report from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), batters Iyer and Rahul were in the process of rehabilitation after suffering injuries to their thigh and lower back. The Indian batting pair had begun their preparations for the upcoming white-ball matches by practising at the NCA nets.
During this period, Rahul and Iyer were also engaged in strength and fitness training sessions. Ex-vice-captain Rahul injured his thigh playing for Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2023, last representing India in March against Australia. Middle-order batter Iyer had back surgery this year and hasn’t played internationally since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
