The outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus had a toll on all the sporting activities across the globe including the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to postpone the league until April 15 which was scheduled to commence from March 29.
There have been a lot of reports going around on the fate of the cash-rich league. Earlier, it was noted that BCCI might take a call after April 14 when the lockdown gets over. But with the lockdown to continue for two more weeks, the tournament has been postponed for an indefinite period.

However, the Sourav Ganguly-led body hasn’t ruled out the prospect of hosting the tournament sometime later. They have taken a wait and watch approach before taking the final decision. Amid all the speculations, former India cricketer VVSÂ Laxman came up with an idea to host both the IPL 13 and the T20 World Cup this year. The Indian cricket great believes the franchise-based cricket league should kick-off the new season when the COVID-19 situation fully resolves.
“I think some of the cricket boards will be encouraging the fact that IPL is a big tournament, and everyone acknowledges that. And just before the World Cup, it will set the tone for a hectic cricket season. But I just hope that everything is normal, and no one is in danger.

And once that happens, I am sure the IPL should kick off the cricket calendar,” Laxman said while speaking on Star Sports 1 show Cricket Connected.Â
BCCI are keenly following the proceedings and looking for a window post-May 2020 to host the cash-rich league before the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia starting from October 18.
