The Board of Control for Cricket in India announced changes to India’s Men’s and Women’s squads for the 19th Asian Games. The continental multi-sport event is all set to take place in Hangzhou, China. Pacer Akash Deep replaced Shivam Mavi in the Men’s squad. Meanwhile, Pooja Vastrakar will replace Anjali Sarvani in the women’s squad.
Shivam Mavi suffered a back injury and has been ruled out of the tournament. The board announced Bengal pacer Akash Deep as his replacement. Men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games will begin on September 28th, with the finals on 8th October.
In a statement released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, they wrote, “Mavi is suffering from a back injury and is ruled out of the tournament. The men’s cricket competition will take place from 28th September to 8th October in a T20 format.”
Meanwhile, Anjali Sarvani suffered a knee injury and will miss the upcoming Asian Games. Pooja Vastrakar who was on the stand-by list will replace her in the team. The Women’s cricket competition begins before the opening ceremony. India will play the first quarter-final on Thursday, September 21.
“Meanwhile, the Women’s Selection Committee named Pooja Vastrakar, who was earlier a part of the standby list of players, as a replacement for Anjali Sarvani at the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022,” the BCCI wrote in their statement.
