Asia Cup 2023: Washington Sundar Covers A Long Distance To Achieve Asian Dominance

India won the Asia Cup 2023 title by beating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. Team India delivered a remarkable performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka. They displayed exceptional bowling skills and comfortably chased the target.

Before the match, it was revealed that star all-rounder Axar Patel would be absent due to injuries sustained during India’s loss to Bangladesh. In his place, the BCCI announced that all-rounder Washington Sundar would join the squad for the final.

When Washington Sundar received the call-up, he was reportedly in Bengaluru. The call came at 1 a.m., but his passport was in Chennai. Consequently, the 23-year-old travelled from Bangalore to Chennai to retrieve his passport before making his way to Colombo for the Asia Cup final.

However, despite being part of the lineup, Sundar didn’t have the opportunity to contribute. He didn’t bowl any overs or bat in the match. Nevertheless, India delivered a superb performance, winning the Asia Cup title by ten wickets against Sri Lanka.

In the Asia Cup 2023 final in Colombo, Mohammed Siraj secured six wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah contributed with one wicket, and Hardik Pandya managed to dismiss three batsmen. These combined efforts made the final heavily one-sided in favour of India against Sri Lanka.

Mohammed Siraj achieved his first five-wicket haul in just 16 balls, setting a new record as the fastest in ODI cricket history. His destructive spell occurred during the 4th over, specifically on deliveries 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, and 3.6 balls.

Despite losing the toss, India’s performance in the final was outstanding. The bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah with one wicket, Hardik Pandya with three, and Mohammed Siraj with a remarkable six-wicket haul, limited Sri Lanka to a mere 50 runs.

In the pursuit of the target, Indian openers Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill took charge, with Kishan scoring an unbeaten 23* and Gill contributing 27*. Their partnership secured India’s comprehensive ten-wicket victory, sealing the Asia Cup 2023 title.
