Asia Cup 2023: [WATCH] Virat Kohli And Shubman Gill Can’t Control Laughter As Mohammed Siraj Chased A Ball To The Boundary Off His Own Bowling

Mohammed Siraj delivered the best performance of his career in the Asia Cup 2023 final between India and Sri Lanka. During his seven-over spell, the right-arm pacer took six wickets while giving away only 21 runs.

Siraj began his spell with a maiden over, and in the second over, he claimed four wickets, although one delivery went for a four. Dhananjaya de Silva managed to get a boundary by pushing a full delivery from Siraj towards the mid-on region.

India positioned several fielders in the slip cordon, leaving the area in front of square without any fielder. Interestingly, there was no fielder in the mid-on region, which meant that the bowler Mohammed Siraj had to chase the ball. Unfortunately, the ball eluded Siraj and went beyond the boundary line.

Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill burst into laughter as they watched Siraj chasing the ball. Typically, fast bowlers concentrate on their follow-through and stay close to the pitch after releasing the ball. However, Siraj deviated from the norm and sprinted towards the boundary line.

Siraj got Dhananjaya de Silva out and caught behind on the following delivery. With this wicket, he achieved a unique feat as the first Indian bowler to claim four wickets in a single over in ODI cricket.

Mohammed Siraj narrowly missed a five-wicket haul in the last home ODI against Sri Lanka

Earlier this year, during a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka hosted by India, Siraj delivered a similar impressive spell. In the final game of the series held in Thiruvananthapuram, he made a strong effort to achieve a five-wicket haul but concluded with figures of 4/32 in 10 overs.

The fast bowler had a phenomenal performance today, securing six wickets. His outstanding spell played a crucial role in India dismissing Sri Lanka for a mere 50 runs in 15.2 overs. As a result, India is now in a commanding position and is strongly favoured to win the Asia Cup 2023 final.
