Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team’s captain, has experienced both adversity and success in his career. While he missed out on the 2011 ODI World Cup, he has celebrated victories such as the T20 World Cup in 2007 and multiple IPL championships. However, before entering the professional cricket world, the 36-year-old had to overcome various challenges to achieve the remarkable feat of becoming the first cricketer to score three double centuries in ODI cricket.

Reflecting on his modest beginnings, Rohit shared that during his childhood, around 10-11 family members used to share the same room for sleeping. He highlighted the challenges of this situation, where his grandfather had the bed while everyone else had to make do on the floor.

At the age of three, Rohit Sharma experienced a temporary separation from his parents

Rohit recalled that there was very little space to stretch out, so he often had to curl up to sleep comfortably.

“You know, that was our room. 10-11 of us used to sleep. The grandfather on the bed, me, uncles, aunts, grandmother on the floor. I would curl up. I had a thing, I had to touch someone or something with my leg. I would sleep towards the wall, my leg touching it. Else, I can’t sleep,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Indian Express.

In due course, Rohit Sharma mentioned that his grandfather made a request to his parents, asking them to keep Rohit with them and take his brother to Dombivli.

Consequently, at the age of three, there was a period when Rohit lived in Borivali, while his parents resided around 50 kilometers away, temporarily separating him from them.

“Dadaji had said, ‘Rohit ko idhar chhod de, aur chhote wale ko leke ja apne sath’ (leave Rohit with us and take the little one with you). That’s how I stayed in Borivali while my parents and brother stayed in Dombivli (50 kms away). In some 100-odd square feet house, we used to stay, eight of us,” Rohit added.

Rohit Sharma recalled playing cricket in the narrow lanes of Borivali and even recounted getting into a scuffle during one of those matches.
