The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup has a rich history of setting and breaking records, and the 2023 edition in India is no different. With the tournament now in its 13th edition, cricket enthusiasts have witnessed remarkable achievements and unexpected results.

Defending champions, England, have had a tough start to the competition, finding themselves at the bottom of the points table after four matches. On the other hand, Afghanistan, participating in only their third ODI World Cup, have managed to secure two victories against former world champions.

One of the standout features of this World Cup has been the exceptional individual performances, and the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, has been at the forefront of rewriting records.

He now holds the record for the most centuries in World Cup cricket, with seven to his name, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of six. Rohit’s remarkable form has also made him the fifth-highest run-scorer in World Cup history, amassing 1,289 runs at an impressive average of 64.45.

2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Records:

Highest Total

The record for the highest team total in a World Cup match was shattered by South Africa, as they piled up 428 runs in their opener against Sri Lanka. This feat was achieved through outstanding centuries by Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram, surpassing the previous record held by Australia at 417/6 against Afghanistan in 2015.

Fastest Century

Aiden Markram’s 49-ball century against Sri Lanka not only set a new record for the fastest century in World Cup history but also marked the second instance of this record being broken during the tournament. Glenn Maxwell’s incredible century in just 40 balls against the Netherlands added to the excitement.

Most Centuries In A Single Innings

The South African trio of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram achieved a unique feat by becoming the first batting trio to score centuries in a single ODI World Cup innings. This happened in the match against Sri Lanka, making it the fourth instance of such a record in ODI history, and South Africa accomplished it three times.

Best Run Chase Of All Time

Another remarkable record came from Pakistan, who successfully chased down a target of 345 runs against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad. This was the highest successful run chase in ODI World Cup history, with Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan playing pivotal roles in the victory.

International Records

Maximum Sixes Scored In International Cricket

In the international arena, Rohit Sharma surpassed Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in international cricket during his century against Afghanistan. Rohit now stands as the batter with the second-highest number of sixes in World Cup history, with 40 sixes, trailing only Chris Gayle, who has 48.

Virat Kohli further solidified his reputation as a run-chase maestro by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in successful ODI run chases. Kohli’s remarkable record of 5,786 runs in 96 innings at an average of 90.40 and a strike rate of 97.16 demonstrates his prowess in ODI cricket, with 23 centuries and 25 half-centuries to his name.
