Team India skipper Rohit Sharma continued his emphatic form in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 match against the Netherlands on Sunday, November 12 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. His partnership with Shubman Gill got India off to a flyer in the match. The veteran broke several records during his knock.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. He slammed a boundary to kick off the proceedings, opening the batting with Shubman Gill. The duo took on the Netherlands bowlers, smashing them all over the park. Rohit slammed his first six off the innings in the sixth over off Logan van Beek. He smashed another in the following over off Colin Ackermann. With this Rohit went past AB de Villiers in the Most Sixes in a calendar year list.
The Indian skipper has hit 59 ODI sixes so far in 2023. AB de Villiers held the record previously, smashing 58 sixes in ODI in 2015. Rohit Sharma also hit the most sixes in a World Cup edition as a captain, and Most boundaries in a World Cup edition as a captain. He has scored 48 boundaries and 20 sixes so far in the tournament.

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid heaped praise on skipper Rohit Sharma for his batting performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He expressed that Rohit’s blistering batting has been the key to setting the tone for the innings. Before the India vs Netherlands game, Rohit Sharma had scored 442 runs at an average of 55.25, including a century and two fifties. Talking about the Indian skipper on the eve of the Netherlands game, Rahul Dravid had said,
“Rohit is certainly been a leader, without a doubt. I think he has led by example on and off the field. Some of the starts he has given us, the way he has cracked open games for us. A lot of times people are looked at… there have been some games that could have turned tricky for us, but the kind of starts he has helped us crack open games.”
