India’s opener Shubman Gill was spotted in a photo with friends while on vacation in London. His last on-field appearance was in the final of the 2023 World Cup, where India faced a heartbreaking defeat against Australia.
Gill entered the tournament with high expectations, but he had to sit out a couple of matches initially due to dengue. Despite this setback, he played nine matches afterward, scoring 354 runs with an average of 44.50, featuring four half-centuries.
Gill provided good support to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the top order but couldn’t deliver innings that could secure a victory.
Resting alongside several teammates, Shubman Gill sat out the recently concluded five-match T20I series against Australia. He is set to resume action next week as India embarks on a comprehensive tour of South Africa.
During this break, Gill took a trip to London with his friends to recharge before the important South Africa tour. Raghav Sharma, one of Gill’s friends, shared a couple of pictures on Instagram, offering a glimpse of the vacation.

“Ruturaj is going to have stiff competition because Shubman Gill also plays like that”- Aakash Chopra talks about opening options for the 2024 T20 World Cup
Aakash Chopra mentioned that Ruturaj Gaikwad has earned consideration for the 2024 T20 World Cup squad with his impressive performance in the recent series against Australia.
Ruturaj emerged as the top run-scorer, accumulating 223 runs in five matches at an average of 55.75, featuring one century and a fifty.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra reviewed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s displays and suggested that he could be contending with Shubman Gill for an opening position in a fully-equipped Indian T20 squad. Chopra remarked:
“Ruturaj Gaikwad – he said that he is there. Ruturaj is going to have stiff competition because Shubman Gill also plays like that. Rohit Sharma will also come now. So suddenly you will feel that you aren’t even able to pick two among the three.”
Chopra continued:
“So these runs were necessary. Keep scoring runs so that you are part of the squad when the World Cup comes. From his point of view, it’s important that he remains a part of the squad. It might be a direct shoot-out between him and Shubman Gill. You might keep one of them as both do similar things in T20 cricket.”
The 2024 T20 World Cup is scheduled to be hosted by West Indies and the USA from June 4 to June 30.
