Madhya Pradesh batter Rajat Patidar expressed that he has started to believe a bit in destiny after receiving Team India’s call-up to the ODI squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa. The youngster is at a crucial juncture in his career, coming back from an injury. He would be keen to make his debut for the country in the upcoming series.

Rajat Patidar received his maiden call-up last year when South Africa toured India. However, he did not get an opportunity to play. The batter suffered a long-term injury that impacted his career, missing the 2023 IPL season. He is grateful to receive an India call-up again, after recovering from his injury.

“Now, I believe in destiny a bit. I try not to think too much about what’s written in destiny. I try to stay in the present. It feels very good to get another chance with the India set-up after the surgery,” said Rajat Patidar in an interaction with Hindustan Times.

I had played for three years with pain: Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar has proved himself to be a valuable player across formats. He also has a good record in T20s, scoring 1640 runs at an average of 37.27, including a century and fourteen fifties. In his recent interview with Hindustan Times, the batter spoke about adopting to different formats. He said,

“From watching top players one thing I have learnt is that the consistent players never have to change their game too much in T20. They back their cricketing shots and find a way to score.”

Talking about his injury, Rajat Patidar expressed, “It’s the main tendon in the body and takes a year-and-a-half to heal completely. It’s been 6-7 months so far. The doctor has told me that I can play and the heel with slowly get used to the ground conditions. There is some pain. But I had played for three years with pain (before surgery). So, I know I can manage,”

Rajat Patidar is in brilliant form, having scored four fifties in six matches for Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has amassed 315 runs at an average of 52.50 at a strike rate of 104.30. He will be keen to continue the good run in the upcoming tour of South Africa.
