The defending Champions Lahore Qalandars has been dealt a major blow as star bowler Rashid Khan will not feature in Pakistan Super League 2024 due to an injury. Rashid Khan was a member of the team that won last year’s tournament.
Rashid Khan will be a massive blow for Lahore Qalandars in this year’s edition. He is still recovering from an injury that made him miss the 3-match T20I series against India that would be completed today.
Rashid Khan played a key role in helping Lahore Qalandar win the 2023 title. He picked a total of 20 wickets from 11 matches (11 innings) at an economy of 6.53 runs per over including best figures of 4 for 21. His bowling led Lahore to put enough pressure on the opponent batters and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. He can tonk bowlers with his aggressive hitting that can help the team register important runs.
Qalandars Chief Executive Atif Rana released a statement, “It is upsetting that we have been deprived of Rashid Khan. He is a big name and a match-winner. No one can replace Rashid completely. Efforts will be made to include a good player in the squad in place of Rashid.”
Pakistan Super League will see defending Champions Lahore Qalandars face Islamabad United in the opening match of the tournament on 17th February at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Rashid Khan Missed The T20I Series Against India
The star all-rounder Rashid Khan was ruled out of the T20I series against India due to an injury. He got surgery on the back and did not recover for this big event. His bowling absence was missed as none of the spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, and Nabi was able to control the run flow in the two matches
Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott said “It is a case of us making sure that we are really careful with his back. He is such an influential player, we have to make sure he is 100 percent ready and not rush him back from that type of surgery. It is important to give him the right time he is working extremely hard and he is here with the team at Mohali and Indore.
