England’s Director of Cricket, Rob Key shared a fitness update on Jofra Archer, who has been out of action for a long time due to elbow injury. They are hoping that the pacer returns to the team for the T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to take place later this year.

Jofra Archer hasn’t played any professional cricket since May last year. He played his last International match in March last year against Bangladesh. He is currently rehabilitating after the recurrence of an elbow injury. In an encouraging news, he did train with the England squad on their tour of the Caribbean in December. Rob Key is hopeful that Archer will return to the team before the T20 World Cup. Speaking on the BBC’s ‘Tailenders Podcast’, he said,

“Our plan is the T20 World Cup, building him up slowly.”

Jofra Archer is such a talent: Rob Key

England’s Director of Cricket Roy Key further praised Jofra Archer’s talent. He expressed that the pacer has been bowling like “he’d never been away”. He also revealed that Archer was advised against playing in the Indian Premier League this year. Roy Key said,

“I saw him bowl in the Caribbean and it was like he’d never been away. I don’t want to get back to this thing where he plays and then goes down again. He (Archer) wanted to play in the IPL, but we said not this time. Hopefully, the years he has missed he can add to the end of his career. He is such a talent.”

The England pacer has played 13 Tests, 21 ODIs and 15 T20Is for England. He has taken 42 wickets in the red-ball format. He also took 42 wickets in ODIs and 18 in T20I cricket.
