The eagerly awaited five-match Test series is set to kick off on January 25 in Hyderabad, marking a crucial juncture for the English cricket team. Facing India in this series poses a significant challenge for England, marking a pivotal test for the squad under the leadership of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. These two leaders have revolutionized the approach to Test cricket, demonstrating remarkable success against formidable opponents in recent years.

However, the impending series in India presents an unparalleled challenge due to the spin-friendly conditions, exposing the English side’s relative inexperience in contending with the formidable duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja on turning tracks.

Nasser Hussain, the former England skipper, acknowledges the enormity of the challenge and identifies India as the favourites. Yet, he refuses to discount England, emphasizing the team’s resilience under Stokes’ leadership, particularly in home conditions. Hussain expresses curiosity about India’s strategy, especially with the mental game, referring to the influence of Bazball.

Nasser Hussain said: “India are the favourites, but every single challenge Bazball has faced they’ve stuck to their guns and Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum’s record is seriously good, I wouldn’t write them off. Bazball has been very successful, especially at home and the two toughest places to tour are India or Australia. It’s going to be a massive challenge for England,” Hussain said while talking to Sky Sports.

“India want to see how this new approach will work at home. It will be fascinating cricket and will be interesting to see how this particular side will go against what is one of the great cricketing outfits at the moment, which is the India side.”

Adding to the analysis, Michael Atherton, a former England international, aligns with the notion that Rohit Sharma’s leadership will guide India to triumph in the five-match series. He highlights India’s robust spin bowling unit as a decisive factor, emphasizing that spin traditionally plays a significant role in Indian conditions.

Atherton confidently asserts, “India will win,” citing the superiority of India’s spinners over their English counterparts as the defining element in the series outcome.
