The England Cricket Board (ECB) has summoned right-handed batsman Dan Lawrence to take over from Harry Brook for the upcoming five-match Test tour in India. The ECB issued a statement mentioning that Lawrence, the right-handed batsman, will join the squad within the next 24 hours.
Due to personal reasons, Brook, a key choice for England in the middle-order, will be returning home, causing him to miss all five Tests. The 24-year-old displayed excellent performance during the three-Test tour of Pakistan in 2022-23, maintaining an average of over 90 in the series, highlighted by three centuries.
The ECB issued a statement addressing Harry Brook’s absence, mentioning:
“Harry Brook is set to return home with immediate effect for personal reasons from the England Men’s Test tour of India. The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time.”
“In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space. The England selectors will confirm a replacement player for the tour in due course,” it added.
England squad: Ben Stokes (c), Rehan Ahmed, Jack Leach, James Anderson, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Duckett, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook (withdrawn, replaced by Dan Lawrence), Zak Crawley, Ben Foakes, Tom Hartley, Ollie Pope, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, and Mark Wood.
Dan Lawrence participated in England’s tour of India in 2021
Dan Lawrence featured in the England squad during their tour to India in 2020-21. The right-handed batsman accumulated 149 runs in three Tests, maintaining an average of 24.83 and securing a solitary half-century. In total, the Surrey batter has scored 551 runs in 11 matches at an average of 32.83.
Despite his performance, the 26-year-old has not been selected for the England Lions’ squad in the series against India A. He represented the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL) and is currently in the UAE for the second season of IL20, playing for the Desert Vipers.
