In just his second Test appearance, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel played a pivotal role with the bat, contributing significantly to India’s five-wicket victory over England in the fourth Test on Monday. This win has secured an unassailable 3-1 lead for the hosts in the five-match series.
Stepping in for KS Bharat in the third Test, Jurel swiftly proved his worth. Debuting with a resilient 46 in Rajkot, he followed it up with an impressive 90-run innings in the first innings in Ranchi.
This crucial performance helped India recover from a challenging situation at 177/7 in response to England’s 353, posting a competitive total on the scoreboard.

Commending Jurel for the early maturity displayed in his international career, Rohit Sharma remarked during the presentation ceremony:
“Jurel playing his second Test showed solid composure, calmness and he’s got the shots as well to play all around the wicket. The first innings 90 of his was very crucial for us to get close to that England’s total and again in the second innings showed a lot of maturity, composure along with Gill.”
In the upcoming fifth and final Test, Jurel aims to capitalize on this performance, presenting a strong case for inclusion in the squad for the tour of Australia scheduled later this year.
