IND vs ENG: Shubman Gill Opts To Keep His Verbal Exchange With James Anderson Private After Day 2

In the ongoing Test series against England, Indian batsman Shubman Gill showcased his excellent form, securing a remarkable hundred on Day 2 of the fifth Test at Dharamsala on March 8.

A standout moment from his 110-run innings was when he confidently stepped out and hit James Anderson straight over his head. The well-timed and unexpected shot even earned praise from England skipper Ben Stokes.

During a conversation with the host broadcaster after the conclusion of play on Day 2, Shubman Gill was questioned about the brief exchange of words with James Anderson following that shot. Playfully, Gill declined to disclose the conversation details and responded:

“I think it would be better for both of us to keep that chat in private (smiles).”

Gill elaborated on his strategy of stepping out against Anderson, expressing his intention to disrupt the experienced pacer’s length. He clarified that it was simply an instinctive decision to attempt that shot.

Although James Anderson later bowled Gill, the right-hander’s aggressive play had already positioned India strongly in the game.

Shubman Gill is optimistic that he has made his father proud

Shubman Gill’s father, who has been his coach since childhood, witnessed his son scoring his fourth Test hundred in Dharamsala. Gill shared that it was his father’s dream to see him play for India, and he expressed hope that his achievements have made his father proud.

Regarding this, Gill mentioned:

“This was my father’s dream to see me play at this level. It was his vision. So I hope he would be proud of my performance today. I feel I missed out on a big one today. Even the ball that I got out to, I felt I didn’t sight that ball properly. But apart from that, I’m feeling good and hopefully, everytime I go out there I will be able to.”

At the conclusion of Day 2, India reached 473/8, establishing a lead of 255 runs over England’s first-innings score of 218. England must swiftly dismiss the remaining lower-order batsmen on Day 3 and then display exceptional batting to stage a comeback in the game.
