Out-of-favour India batsman Manoj Tiwary did not enjoy a long career in international cricket. The batsman was touted as the next star Indian batsmen when he was scoring runs for Bengal in first-class cricket. However, after playing only a handful of matches, Tiwary was dropped by then captain MS Dhoni.
Tiwary made his debut against Australia in 2004 and played only 12 ODI matches and 3 T20I in his career. He scored his maiden ODI hundred against West Indies in 2011 and was also named the player of the match. Even after having age on his side, the Bengal batsman was not picked in the Indian team after 2015.

Manoj Tiwari has now opened about his axing from the Indian team and has said he regrets not playing for India for a long time. Recently, he recalled about getting dropped from the Indian side during his interaction with popular journalist Boria Majumdar. The two were chatting each other on Fancode’s special segment ‘Lockdown But Not Out”.
Tiwary said “100% I believe that. I’ve always been vocal about not getting chances because I never thought I will be dropped after scoring a hundred”.

The 34-year-old told that he respected team managements decision and thought they might have some other plans for him. But he never got further chances to play and now regrets not asking MS Dhoni about his axing. Incidentally, Dhoni and Manoj Tiwary both played with each other for the Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2016.
The former batsman was keen on asking Dhoni about why he was dropped from the side but in the end, decided against it. However, he also stated that now if he meets Dhoni he will not hesitate and ask him why he was dropped.
“I never got the opportunity or you can say have the courage to ask Mahi or captain because during that time we respect our seniors so much that we tend to hold ourselves back. So I haven’t questioned him yet”.
I wanted to ask him during the IPL when we played together for RPS but did not do it because of the game situation and intensity of the IPL. I try to hold myself back as I do not want to make anyone’s mindset unhappy or upset them at a point that it affects him. But obviously, I’ve thought about asking him in the future”, Tiwary concluded.
