The upsurge of the coronavirus pandemic has led to a lockdown in various places across the globe. It also has led to the cricketing activities take a backseat with cricketers locked inside their houses. The deadly virus had its effect on many global events and it is likely to take a toll on the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.
With the hosting nation closing its border for the next six months, the future of the mega event hangs by the wire. As the clouds of uncertainty loom large, the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) board committee is likely to sit to decide on the future course of actions. Moreover, a cricket committee will follow to make a call on the playing condition and the use of saliva and sweat on the ball.

Meanwhile, ICC is likely to put forward the idea of shifting the ICC T20 World Cup to 2020 on the table during the meeting scheduled to take place on May 28. Along with this, ICC’s Event Committee headed by Chris Tetley will present multiple options on the table.
“We are expecting three options from the ICC Events Committee. First option is having World T20 as per schedule with 14-day quarantine with crowd being allowed. The back-up for this option could be tournament in-front of empty stadium. The third option could be shifting the tournament to 2022,” a board member told PTI.

Meanwhile, the postponement of the ICC T20 World Cup to 2022 will also suit Cricket Australia’s (CA) plans. Kevin Roberts, CEO of Cricket Australia recently advocated for an extended Test series against India. He feels this can help them recover some of the losses.
The board member further reiterated that ICC is made up by its members and the global body is ready to give a discount if they decide that bilateral series are more important.
