In the 2024 IPL match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Friday, April 12, DC’s opening batsman, David Warner, was bowled in a rather unfortunate manner.
While Prithvi Shaw was providing a decent start to DC’s chase of 168, Warner faced difficulties at the other end. After attempting a lap shot off Naveen-ul-Haq’s delivery, Warner suffered a blow to his hand, requiring physiotherapy assistance before the fourth over.
Warner experienced significant discomfort when he tried to play a stroke off Yash Thakur’s first delivery. Despite attempting his signature lap shot by shifting to the offside, he found himself restricted for space as the ball wasn’t wide enough to execute the shot.
The ball’s awkward contact made it bounce up and hit the stumps while Warner was attempting to defend himself from it.

Warner managed to accumulate only eight runs from nine balls, achieving a strike rate of 88.89, and he hit just one boundary throughout his innings.
David Warner’s performance in the IPL 2024 has been slow-paced up to this point
The experienced opening batsman didn’t reach double digits for the first time this season, and his overall performance has been average at best.
While he scored 29 runs in DC’s first game against PBKS and added 101 runs in the following two innings, his recent form has been disappointing, with only 36 runs in the last three matches. Warner’s struggle adds pressure on the rest of the batting lineup, exacerbating DC’s challenges.
DC’s hopes took a hit when they fell to 24-1 after Warner’s dismissal in the fourth over. Another setback came when Prithvi Shaw was caught out deep off Ravi Bishnoi’s bowling, with Nicholas Pooran making a remarkable catch.
Although DC debutant Jake Fraser-McGurk made a strong start, he struggled against spin bowling. Meanwhile, captain Rishabh Pant has also entered the fray. At the moment, DC stands at 100-2 after 12 overs.
