On Friday, June 21, in the Super 8 stage of Australia vs. Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua, Pat Cummins registered the premier hat-trick of the T20 World Cup 2024 that is taking place presently.
A series of deliveries stretching over two overs saw Mahmudullah, Mahedi Hasan, and Towhid Hridoy fall to Pat Cummins. Consequently, Cummins’ economical bowling contributed to the Bangladeshi side being restricted to only 140-8 after using their full quota for 20 overs.
Pat Cummins is the second Australian bowler to have scored a hat-trick in the history of the T20 World Cup while only following one player.
The first person to take three wickets in a T20 tournament match was a legendary cricketer from Australia known as Brett Lee. Interestingly, both bowlers from Australia got hat-tricks when they played against Bangladesh.

Pat Cummins, the hat-trick hero of Australia, stated that, before the achievement was displayed on television, he was unaware that he had accomplished the feat against Bangladesh in Antigua on June 21.
Reentering the squad after a break, Cummins looked sharp as he became the second Australian bowler to get a hat-trick in a T20 World Cup, following the great Brett Lee.
“I had no idea (on the hat trick), then saw when it came up on the screen. Set batter in, playing the innings, you never know how it’ll go about, so that was a big wicket (on Hridoy’s wicket) and happy to have restricted them,” Cummins, at the post-match presentation.
“Agar and Ellis have been on the bench for us, that shows the depth we have in the bowling unit. Fairly polished performance, the goal was to win and we did well with the run rate, we’ll need to continue with the momentum going ahead in the Super 8s,” Pat Cummins added.
