England middle-order batter Harry Brook hopes to give co-hosts USA “a good battering” in their T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday, June 23. Acknowledging the importance of the net run rate, he emphasized the need for a decisive win.
Having suffered consecutive losses in the Super eight stage, the us is on the verge of removal. England, meanwhile, is in a need to-win scenario after a powerful victory over the West Indies and a slender defeat to South Africa.
Brook, who scored a valiant half of-century against South Africa, cited that England feels comfortable playing in Barbados due to their familiarity with the conditions. As quoted by BBC Sport, he said:
“We’ve got to win and then obviously see how we are on net run-rate but the main thing is to definitely get that win. We’ve played in Barbados quite a lot the past six months so we know the conditions, we know the wind and the pitch as well, so hopefully, we can go out there and give them a good battering.”
England must defeat the USA by at least 10 runs or with at least an over to spare to keep their hopes of reaching the tournament semi-finals alive.
“Just a few key moments of their bowlers”- Harry Brook
The Yorkshire batter further commented on their limited knowledge of USA players and elaborated:
“I haven’t actually seen them play, just a few highlights here and there of their bowlers. But we’ll do that [on Saturday], do our analysis and have a proper look to make sure that we’re ready for the game.”
England, under the leadership of Jos Buttler, seemed out of contention in the group stage following a loss to Australia. However, victories against Namibia and Oman, coupled with Australia’s win over Scotland, secured England’s spot in the Super 8 stage.
