Former India skipper MS Dhoni is one of the greatest Indian cricketers to play the game. Since making his debut in 2004 under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly, Dhoni has taken giant strides. However, it was under Rahul Dravid where MS Dhoni carved a niche for himself as one of the best finishers in the game.
Dravid, who is currently the head of the National Cricket Academy, has seen Dhoni grow from close quarters. The likes of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly had a positive impact on him as MS Dhoni ensured a smooth transition. Since taking over the baton from Dravid, Dhoni took Indian cricket to greater heights.
Results didn’t matter to MS Dhoni: Rahul Dravid
The Wall believes Dhoni’s ability to distance himself from the results has helped him achieve a cult figure. The veteran wicket-keeper batsman has helped India win innumerable matches on his own batting till the last ball. India are yet to find a finisher like him which has hurt them badly.
“You watch MS Dhoni play during the backend of a match when he was at his best, you always felt like that he is doing something really important to him but he is playing it like the result does not really matter to him,” Dravid told Sanjay Manjrekar during a videocast hosted by ESPNCricinfo.
“I think you need to have that or you need to train for it. It is a skill that I never had. The consequences of any decision mattered to me. It would be interesting to ask MS Dhoni that is this something that has come naturally to him or did he work on this during his career,” he added.
Meanwhile, speaking about MS Dhoni, his retirement speculations are the buzz of the town. He has not played any cricket since last July and is currently mulling retirement from international cricket. However, reports suggest that he will play in the Indian Premier League for another two-three years before calling times on his career.
