Sunrisers Hyderabad Retention Plans For IPL 2025

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is gearing up for the IPL 2025 mega auction by retaining key players, as per a report from ESPNCricinfo. The team plans to secure South African star Heinrich Klaasen for a whopping ₹23 crore, making him their most expensive retention.

Australian all-rounder Pat Cummins will also be retained for ₹18 crore, alongside Indian young talent Abhishek Sharma, who will be held for ₹14 crore. These three players are expected to form the core of SRH’s squad for the upcoming season.

Additionally, Australia’s Travis Head and Indian all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy are also likely to be retained. Reddy, an uncapped player in the 2024 IPL season, recently debuted for India in the T20I series against Bangladesh.

Coaching Changes at Delhi Capitals

The Delhi Capitals (DC) are also making significant changes, particularly with their coaching staff. Hemang Badani, a former Indian cricketer, has emerged as a frontrunner for the head coach role, following the departure of Ricky Ponting.

Ponting, who had been with the franchise since 2018, stepped down due to availability issues. Alongside Badani, former Indian pacer Munaf Patel is being considered for a support staff role, possibly as a bowling coach.

According to IPL sources, DC management is keen on hiring experienced homegrown talent for their coaching positions, but no final decisions have been made yet.

Delhi Capitals’ Retention Strategy

Delhi Capitals, like many other teams, is expected to retain three key players ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Rishabh Pant will be retained for ₹18 crore, followed by all-rounder Axar Patel for ₹14 crore, and left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav for ₹11 crore.

These retentions will leave DC with limited budget flexibility, especially with five-player retentions costing ₹75 crore. However, the team may look to use their Right to Match (RTM) cards to secure the services of breakout star Jake-Fraser McGurk and South African batter Tristan Stubbs, if they fit within the budget.
