Right before the Indian Premier League season, Heinrich Klassen proved his worth with the fourth-fastest century in One-day internationals. He achieved this milestone during the 3rd One-day international match against West Indies played at JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom on 21 March 2023.
Chasing down 261 runs to win, South Africa was in a spot of bother with the scoreboard reading 87 for 4. Klassen looked in fine touch right from the word go putting pressure on West Indies’ bowling. He displayed an array of strokes keeping the scoreboard ticking with attacking shots. Klassen reached half-century off 30 deliveries and looked in sublime touch.
With wickets falling at the other end, Klassen looked in brilliant touch with attacking shots against the pacers and spinners. He continued his assault on West Indies bowlers and reached his century off 54 deliveries. It was a remarkable performance by Klassen not allowing any bowlers to settle as South Africa chased down the target in 29.3 overs.
Klassen remained not out on 119 off 61 deliveries with 15 fours and 5 sixes. Marco Jansen also contributed 43 off 33 deliveries to steady the South Africa innings. For his unbeaten 119 off 61 deliveries, Klassen was named the player of the match. He was named the player of the series award as the first One-day international was abandoned due to rain.
AB de Villers scored the fastest ODI century for South Africa against West Indies at Wanders, Johannesburg on 18 January 2015. He scored 100 off 31 deliveries and eventually made 149 off 44 deliveries. He also has the third-fastest century in ODIs for Proteas.
AB de Villers scored a century against West Indies on 27 February 2015 during a World Cup match in Sydney. He completed his 100 off 52 deliveries and made an unbeaten 162 off 66 deliveries during that special knock.
Mark Boucher has the second-fastest ODI century against Zimbabwe on 20 September 2006 at Potchefstroom. He completed 100 off 44 balls and made 147 not out off 68 deliveries.
Heinrich Klassen’s form augers well for SRH
Klassen form augers well for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023. He was bought by the SRH franchise for Rs 5.25 Crore.
He made his IPL debut in 2018 and played just 7 matches in the IPL so far. In the 2018 edition, Klassen played 4 matches and achieved the best score of 47.
