India’s wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant took a spectacular catch down the leg side off Mohammed Siraj to dismiss Steve Smith cheaply on Day 5 of the ongoing third Test in Brisbane on Wednesday, December 18. The right-handed batter was out for just four runs as Australia lost their fifth wicket for only 33 runs.
The breakthrough came in the 11th over of Australia’s second innings. Siraj bowled a delivery angling down the leg side, and Smith attempted to play it to fine leg but only got a faint edge. Pant dove to his left to take a brilliant catch. You can watch the video here:

This marked Steve Smith’s fourth failure in the BGT 2024-25, with scores of 0, 17, and 2, in addition to his 101 in the first innings of the current Test. Meanwhile, Siraj claimed his 12th wicket of the series with this dismissal.
Mohammed Siraj joins Bumrah and Akash Deep as India dismantle Australia in the second innings
A dominant bowling performance from Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, and Mohammed Siraj left Australia in disarray during their second innings on Day 5. Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja (8) and Marnus Labuschagne (1), while Akash sent Nathan McSweeney (4) and Mitchell Marsh (2) back to the pavilion.
At the latest update, Australia were 44/5, with Travis Head and Alex Carey at the crease, as the hosts extended their lead to 230 runs.
Earlier, on Day 4, India avoided the follow-on, finishing with 260 in their first innings, thanks to a 47-run partnership between Bumrah (10*) and Akash (31) for the final wicket. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with 84 and 77, respectively.
Australia’s Pat Cummins claimed four wickets, while Mitchell Starc took three. Australia batted first and scored 445, with Travis Head top-scoring on 152 and Steven Smith contributing 101. Alex Carey added 70. Jasprit Bumrah was the top wicket-taker for India, claiming six wickets.
