If I Was The National Selector, MS Dhoni Will Be In My Team, Says Ashish Nehra

Former India captain MS Dhoni has been out of action ever since the India vs New Zealand World Cup encounter. The speculations continue to grow on his retirement. However, he has got the support of his former teammate Ashish Nehra to make a comeback in the national side.

A lot has been spoken over Dhoni’s career. While a certain section believes he has no motivation to play for the country, other people feels MS Dhoni has more to deliver. Meanwhile, he returned to training to gear up for IPL 2020, but BCCI had to postpone it owing to COVID-19.

MS Dhoni will be in my team – Ashish Nehra

Former India pacer Ashish Nehra reckons If the IPL takes place this year, it would an ideal platform for Dhoni to get back into the scheme of things. He also added that it is up to Dhoni to take a final call on his career.

“If I was a national selector, MS Dhoni will be in my team but the bigger question is that whether he wants to play or not. It’s what Dhoni wants at the end of the day,” said Nehra when asked if Dhoni should be picked.

“He’s been away from the game for more than a year and he knows when to step away from the game,” he added.

The former India bowler has shown confidence in MS Dhoni’s abilities. Ashish Nehra feels if the wicket-keeper-batsman desires to play then he should be in the team whatsoever. On the other hand, former India wicket-keeper-batsman Deep Dasgupta is of the opinion that the selectors should have a word with Dhoni regarding his future.

“I mean if Dhoni is a part of that camp, it will be six weeks with the next batch of keepers who can pick his brains. Yes, if he is not a part of that camp, I would still not rule him out if he has a good IPL”, said Deep.

MS Dhoni will be in action for Chennai Super Kings later this year if IPL 2020 takes place. In spite of being out of action for over a year, the former captain has received tremendous backing from a number of people in the world.
