ICC to host India's warm-up in Dubai before Champions Trophy: Report

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Champions Trophy is one of the most anticipated tournaments in the cricketing calendar. As teams prepare to compete for the prestigious title, India’s campaign for the 2025 edition is already generating excitement. According to a report from India Today, India is expected to play a crucial practice match in Dubai as part of their preparation.

The Significance of Practice Matches

Preparing for a global tournament is no easy feat. Practice matches play a pivotal role in helping teams acclimatize to conditions, fine-tune strategies, and build team chemistry. With all of India’s Champions Trophy matches scheduled in Dubai, playing a warm-up game at the venue offers a significant advantage. Dubai, known for its state-of-the-art facilities and unpredictable pitches, demands meticulous preparation. India’s early acclimatization could be the key to their success.

Key Highlights from the Report

The ICC is actively finalizing practice schedules and venues for the tournament. India’s practice match in Dubai highlights their intent to leave no stone unturned in their preparation. Simultaneously, the ICC is overseeing renovation efforts at key Pakistani stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi.

Dubai has evolved into a critical hub for international cricket. Hosting all of India’s matches, including potential semi-final and final appearances, Dubai’s pitches will be in the spotlight. Historically, India has shown a strong performance in Dubai, making fans optimistic about their 2025 campaign.

Renovation Efforts in Pakistan

The ICC matches will return to Pakistan after over two decades. To ensure the readiness of Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi stadiums, the PCB has allocated ₹17 billion for renovations. Though initial deadlines faced delays, PCB assured that work will conclude by January 25, ahead of the tournament.

While some reports hinted at possible delays in renovations, the ICC expressed no major concerns after an inspection. PCB’s confidence in meeting the revised deadlines and their proactive communication reaffirm the venues’ readiness.

“The renovation work is on track and the stadiums will be ready before the deadline,” the PCB clarified in response to concerns about the timing of the renovations.

Tri-Series: Setting the Stage

To further test their preparedness, Pakistan has moved four tri-series matches against New Zealand and South Africa to key Champions Trophy venues. This mini-series offers a precursor to the main event and doubles as a test run for the revamped stadiums.
