Alex Hales and Tamim Iqbal were involved in a heated confrontation during a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2025 match on Thursday (January 9), following the game between Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal.
After the altercation, Hales revealed to Channel 24 what Tamim had said to him. The Bangladesh cricketer asked Hales if he felt ashamed about his previous drug ban with England and whether he was still using drugs.
For context, Hales was excluded from England’s 2019 World Cup squad and all formats after receiving a 21-day ban for using recreational drugs.
“He was asking if I was embarrassed for getting banned for drugs for England and he was asking if I was still taking drugs and he was very, very rude. It’s a real shame really because if anything happens on the field that just ends on the field, but to get personal and that too after the game, I think is pathetic to be honest,” Alex Hales stated (via One Cricket).

Alex Hales and Tamim Iqbal had a heated confrontation following the BPL 2025 match between Rangpur Riders and Fortune Barishal. According to OneCricket, Hales made a face at Tamim, which sparked the Bangladesh batter’s reaction.
“Why are you behaving this way? If you have something to say, say it to my face. Act like a man,” Tamim reportedly told Hales.
The two engaged in a verbal altercation, with Tamim visibly furious. Team staff were seen stepping in to escort him away and attempt to calm him down, as shown in the video below.
Fortune Barishal batted first, posting a solid total of 197/5. In response, Rangpur Riders successfully chased down the target, winning by three wickets. Hales, representing the Riders, was out for just 1 run during the chase, despite his team’s eventual triumph.
