Bangladesh bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz were involved in a heated physical altercation during Match 17 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) between Sylhet Strikers and Khulna Tigers on Sunday, January 12.

The incident occurred during the second innings when Khulna, chasing a target of 183, lost Nawaz in the 17th over. Tanzim, bowling around the wicket, deceived Nawaz with a slower delivery, leading to a simple catch at third man by Zakir Hasan. Nawaz departed after scoring 33 off 18 balls, leaving Khulna at 130/6 in 16.1 overs.

After the dismissal, Tanzim exchanged words with Nawaz and the two bumped into each other aggressively as tensions boiled over. Umpires and players intervened to defuse the situation and restore order on the field. You can watch the video here:

Sylhet Strikers Secure 8-Run Victory Over Khulna Tigers

Batting first, Sylhet Strikers had a shaky start as openers Rahkeem Cornwall (4 off 5) and George Munsey (2 off 7) fell cheaply, leaving the team struggling at 15/2 in 4.2 overs. However, Rony Talukdar (56 off 44) and Zakir Hasan (75* off 46) steadied the innings with a crucial 106-run partnership off 62 balls.

Late cameos from Aaron Jones (20 off 6) and Ariful Haque (21* off 13) propelled Sylhet to a competitive total of 182/5 in 20 overs. In response, Khulna Tigers managed 174/9, with William Bosisto (43 off 40) being their top scorer.

Tanzim Hasan, Reece Topley, and Ruyel Miyah each claimed two wickets for Sylhet. Zakir Hasan’s unbeaten 75 earned him the Player of the Match as Sylhet clinched victory by eight runs.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Reece Topley, and Ruyel Miah each claimed two wickets, while Nahidul Islam picked up one, playing key roles in Sylhet Strikers’ impressive win over the Khulna Tigers.

Up next, the Strikers will face Chittagong Kings in Match 19 of the Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25, set to take place at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on January 13.
