Tilak Varma delivered a brilliant innings, scoring an unbeaten 72 off 55 balls to secure a victory for Team India in the second T20I against England. Following his match-winning performance, captain Suryakumar Yadav bowed in admiration as India sealed a 2-0 lead in the series.

After winning the toss, India opted to bowl first in Chennai, restricting England to 165 runs. However, India faced a challenging chase, losing wickets frequently, with none of their top batters, apart from Varma, managing to cross the 20-run mark.

Batting at number three during the powerplay, Varma held his ground till the end, striking four fours and five sixes to guide India to victory with two wickets to spare.

Tilak Varma is currently in sensational form in his T20I career. After scoring consecutive unbeaten centuries during India’s tour of South Africa in November, he began the England series with an unbeaten 19* in the first T20I.

With his 72* off 55 balls in the second T20I, Varma has surpassed New Zealand all-rounder Mark Chapman to set a new record for the most runs in T20Is without being dismissed. Varma has now accumulated 318 runs since his last dismissal, breaking Chapman’s previous record of 271 runs.
