Andrea Hewitt, wife of former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, has shared her perspective on her husband’s battle with alcohol addiction. In an interview, the former model revealed she had once filed for divorce but retracted it after witnessing Kambli’s vulnerable state. According to Andrea, Kambli underwent rehabilitation at least 14 times to address his drinking habits. Reflecting on their 17-year marriage, Andrea said, “I once thought about it (separating). But I realised that he would be helpless if I leave him. He is like a child, and that hurts me. It makes me feel worried.”
A Love Story and Challenging Times
Andrea is Kambli’s second wife, following his first marriage with Noella Lewis. Their love story began after Kambli saw Andrea on a Tanishq billboard, and they tied the knot in a private civil ceremony in 2006. Despite their enduring bond, challenges surfaced in February 2023 when Andrea filed a police complaint citing domestic abuse. Reports revealed that Kambli, in an inebriated state, had thrown a cooking pan handle at her, causing a head injury. Andrea’s decision to stay in the marriage stemmed from her concern for Kambli’s well-being, noting, “I would not even leave a friend, and he is obviously more than that.”
A Family’s Resilience
Despite the difficulties, Andrea has remained by Kambli’s side, attending significant events such as the 50th-anniversary celebration of Wankhede Stadium, where she was seen assisting him to the stage. The couple celebrated Kambli’s 53rd birthday at a hospital in Bhiwandi alongside family and staff.
Andrea revealed that caring for Kambli during his health struggles was tough, especially while raising their two children, Jesus Christiano and Johanna. However, she credited her son for being a great support during those challenging times.
