Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell recently faced a young bowler with a Jasprit Bumrah-like action in the nets ahead of their opening 2025 Champions Trophy match in Lahore. Maxwell and his teammates have been training in Lahore over the past week.
Australia kicks off their Champions Trophy campaign today (February 22) against England at Gaddafi Stadium. An Australian fan account shared a video on X, showcasing the duel between Maxwell and the youngster.
The clip captures the bowler running in with an action similar to Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and successfully beating Maxwell’s bat with his delivery. You can watch the video here:

Jasprit Bumrah is sidelined from the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a back injury
Team India are missing their star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, in the 2025 Champions Trophy as he couldn’t recover in time from his injury. He has been out of action for the past month after suffering back spasms during the Sydney Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in early January.
With Bumrah unavailable, Mohammed Shami is leading India’s pace attack in the tournament. Speaking on a recent episode of the ICC Reviews, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting shared his thoughts on Bumrah’s replacement in the Indian squad. He said:
“I would go with the left-armer and I’d go with Arshdeep (to replace Bumrah). We know how good he’s been in T20 cricket and if you think about the skill set, he probably provides a similar skill set to what Bumrah does with new ball and death overs and that’s what India will miss.”
Ponting further added:
“That’s taking nothing away from Harshit Rana because I think he has got a lot of talent and we know what he can do with the new ball, but I don’t think his death skills are as good as what Arshdeep Singh’s are.”
