[WATCH]- Mehidy Hasan Miraz Relieved As Jasprit Bumrah Misses ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Indian cricket fans were left heartbroken by Jasprit Bumrah’s absence from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The star pacer was ruled out on February 11 after suffering a lower back injury during the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Sydney earlier this year.

As India begins its campaign without Bumrah, his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, shared a hopeful update on his recovery. His injury during the Sydney Test (January 3–5, 2025) forced him to miss the second innings, with scans revealing a stress reaction in his lower back, requiring five weeks of complete rest.

Although he was initially included in India’s provisional squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the BCCI decided to err on the side of caution. To prevent a recurrence of his prolonged injury struggles from 2022, which kept him out for nearly a year, he was replaced by Harshit Rana.

Jasprit Bumrah‘s absence is a significant blow. In 2024, he took 86 wickets across formats, earning him the prestigious ICC Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year awards. With him sidelined, Mohammed Shami now leads India’s pace attack, with Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana providing support.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Breathes a Sigh of Relief

While Indian fans are disappointed about Bumrah’s absence, teams like Bangladesh feel relieved. Mehidy Hasan Miraz openly shared his feelings during a chat with Sanjana, showing how much Bumrah’s presence affects opponents.

With 149 ODI wickets since his 2016 debut, Bumrah’s ability to swing the ball both ways makes him a tough challenge for batters.

“He is a very different bowler and very dangerous, uff! He is not coming here. We are very happy! He is very dangerous. Everybody respects him. Every better. I got out against him two times. He has improved a lot. He bowls both ways,”  Miraz said in the ICC interview.
