Mohammad Shami registered the second-most expensive bowling figures by an Indian in Champions Trophy history during his spell against New Zealand in the 2025 final on Sunday, March 9, in Dubai. Batting first, the Kiwis posted a total of 251/7.
Despite taking a wicket, Shami struggled with his economy, conceding 74 runs in nine overs at an economy rate of 8.22. His only breakthrough came with the dismissal of Daryl Mitchell, who scored 63 off 101 balls. However, Shami proved expensive in his spell.
His figures of 1/74 are now the second-most expensive by an Indian in the tournament’s history. Umesh Yadav holds the record for the most expensive figures by an Indian, having conceded 75 runs for one wicket against South Africa in the 2013 edition in England.
Other Indian bowlers, including Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin, have also given away over 70 runs in a Champions Trophy match in the past.
