In a significant development, the much-anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) has been rescheduled. Originally slated for April 6, 2025, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, the fixture will now take place on April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM IST.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the change following a request from the Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) due to security concerns during upcoming festivities.
Why Was the Match Rescheduled?
The Kolkata Police urged the CAB to shift the game as they needed to allocate personnel to ensure city-wide security during festive celebrations. With a massive crowd expected at Eden Gardens, authorities believed it would be challenging to manage both the festival-related security and the IPL match simultaneously.
Official Statement from the IPL
In a statement, the IPL governing body confirmed the decision, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announces the rescheduling of Match No. 19 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), originally scheduled for Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.”

The statement further stated, “The decision follows a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding the deployment of personnel across the city owing to festivities. The authorities have recommended that the game be moved to Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM, and the request has been accommodated accordingly. The rest of the schedule remains unchanged.”
Revised IPL Schedule Adjustments
The updated IPL 2025 schedule includes Sunrisers Hyderabad facing Gujarat Titans on April 6 at 7:30 PM IST. On April 8, two matches are lined up—Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Lucknow Super Giants at 3:30 PM IST at Eden Gardens, followed by Punjab Kings clashing with Chennai Super Kings in New Chandigarh during the evening.

How Will This Rescheduling Affect the Teams?
KKR has had a mixed start to IPL 2025. They played their season opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and suffered a defeat. However, they made a strong comeback by registering a commanding victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR).
LSG also played two games so far. They lost their opening match to Delhi Capitals in a nail-biting contest but bounced back in style, securing a crucial win against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Both KKR and LSG will benefit from the extra two days of rest, allowing players to recover from injuries and strategize better for the crucial clash.
