Tamim Iqbal Released From Hospital After Treatment For Heart Attack: Reports

Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal was reportedly discharged from a Dhaka hospital on Friday, March 28, after receiving treatment for a heart attack he suffered on Monday (as per India Today). Shahabuddin Talukder, the doctor who supervised his treatment, stated that the 36-year-old left-handed batter will now undergo a rehabilitation program.

“After observing his health condition, we have decided to discharge him today. He will have to maintain a rehabilitation programme,” Talukder said in a press briefing on Friday (via Bangladesh daily New Age).

Bangladeshi health ministry official Abu Zafar stated that Tamim Iqbal will be unable to play cricket for the next three months. However, he mentioned that the cricketer could make a comeback after this period if his recovery progresses well.

Zafar also advised the left-hander to quit smoking and emphasized the importance of following medical guidance for a smooth recovery.

“Tamim won’t be able to play sports for the next three months. If everything goes well, then he will be able to return. Unfortunately, he is a smoker, which is a risk factor for heart attacks. He must stay away from it. He will have to follow doctors’ advice,” he said (via The Hindu).

Tamim Iqbal Focuses on Recovery as He Leaves Hospital After Week-Long Stay

On March 24, Tamim Iqbal suffered chest pain while fielding in a Dhaka Premier League match. He was rushed to a hospital, where doctors detected an arterial blockage and performed a stenting procedure to restore blood flow.

Medical professionals revealed that Tamim had arrived at the hospital in critical condition. However, after receiving treatment, his health improved, and he was soon able to walk and communicate with his family.

Several cricketing greats, including two-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh, expressed confidence that the veteran batter would recover and come back stronger from this health scare. Tamim Iqbal had an illustrious 16-year career, amassing 8,357 runs in 243 ODIs, including 56 half-centuries and 14 centuries.

Tamim Iqbal amassed 5,134 runs in 70 Test matches, including 31 fifties and 10 centuries. He remains the only Bangladeshi player to score a century in all three formats. In January 2025, just before the ICC Champions Trophy, he announced his retirement from international cricket.
