IPL 2025: Sanjiv Goenka Confronts Rishabh Pant After LSG’s Defeat To PBKS

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka confronted Rishabh Pant following the team’s loss to Punjab Kings. LSG had invested a significant sum of Rs 27 crore in Pant, but his performance so far has not justified the expenditure. The wicket-keeper batter has struggled to make an impact with the bat in the first three matches.

Additionally, his captaincy choices have been widely questioned, leading to criticism from fans on social media, who have labeled him a “Rs 27 crore flop.” The team’s second defeat of the season added to the pressure, prompting Goenka to approach Pant on the field with tough questions.

Goenka’s History of On-Field Confrontations

Goenka has gained a reputation for questioning his team’s captains after losses. Previously, KL Rahul had also faced Goenka’s scrutiny under similar circumstances. Pant, too, was questioned by the team owner after LSG’s opening match defeat against Delhi Capitals. Although the team managed to secure a win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, their loss to Punjab Kings reignited Goenka’s frustration.

Following the match, Goenka was seen speaking sternly to Pant, even pointing a finger at him during their discussion. This incident sparked a social media uproar, with fans criticizing Goenka for his hands-on approach and excessive involvement in cricketing decisions. Many believed that his confrontational attitude put undue pressure on players.

Pant’s Response and the Road Ahead for LSG

After the match, Pant acknowledged that LSG fell short by 20-25 runs against Punjab Kings. He admitted that his team was still adapting to conditions at their home ground. He pointed out that early wickets made it difficult to set a competitive total, but he remained optimistic about the team’s efforts.

Despite the loss, Pant emphasized that there were positives to take from the game and that the team would learn from their mistakes moving forward. While Goenka’s approach has sparked debates, LSG will now have to regroup and focus on improving their performance in the upcoming matches.
