Rishabh Pant’s disappointing run in the Indian Premier League 2025 continues, and his form is now becoming a major concern for the Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise made headlines by signing the wicketkeeper-batsman for a record-breaking amount of ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in the tournament’s history.
However, Pant has not lived up to his hefty price tag. His performance as both captain and batsman has been underwhelming so far. He began the season with a golden duck against his old team, Delhi Capitals. That was followed by a modest 15-run innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the third match against Punjab Kings, he managed to score only 2 runs. These poor performances have put him under immense pressure to deliver.
Another Failure Against Mumbai Indians
Hopes were high when the Lucknow Super Giants faced the Mumbai Indians on April 5 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Batting first, LSG got off to a brilliant start, with Mitchell Marsh scoring a quickfire 60 off just 31 balls. He put on a 76-run partnership for the first wicket with Aiden Markram. But after Marsh’s dismissal, things started to shift. Nicholas Pooran, who has been in good form, was dismissed for 12, bringing LSG’s score from 76/0 to 91/2. This set the stage for Pant to step in and stabilize the innings.

However, he failed yet again. He faced six deliveries and scored just 2 runs before falling to Hardik Pandya. On the fourth ball of the 11th over, Pandya bowled a slower off-cutter. Pant attempted to flick it on the leg side but was too early into the shot. He ended up getting a leading edge, and the ball went high toward the off side. Corbin Bosch, fielding at mid-off, sprinted in and took a stunning diving catch to send Pant back to the pavilion.

As soon as the catch was taken, the camera panned to the stands where LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen reacting. Known for his expressive nature, Goenka had a visible smile on his face, though it seemed more of frustration or disbelief than joy.
